Stephen was a very special person who had an open and loving heart. His sense of humour was fabulous, his positivity contagious and he was a very special human being. He will be missed by so many of us whose heart was touched by his love
A beautiful friend to Alan and I and I wish that we had have had more time. The time we did share will stay with us always xxx
To the most amazing father to my sister, Gemma, and an incredible human being too; you will be missed every single day. There will never be a day on earth that goes by that someone will not thinking fondly of you.
Such a beautiful, wonderful, wise & caring person with a wonderful sense of humor. It has been an honor to have been part of Stephen’s QAI organic “family” for nearly 20 years. He will be greatly missed. Hugs to you, Gemma.
Stephen, I miss you already, your laugh, wide smile, wit, and honesty. Formerly,
In the distant past, you were a hilarious, hard working daily companion, quick to articulate the irony and humor in challenging situations….
As I related to you from afar during the last several years, you were an exemplar of resilience, patience, acceptance and strength in adversity. While enduring great pain and discomfort you never felt sorry for yourself or complained. Always expressing gratitude for what was positive in your life.
I will continue to enjoy fond memories and inspiration from my relationship with you.
I met Stephan in 1990 when I transferred from the City of San Diego Planning Department to what was then called the Waste Management Department, where he worked as a Recycling Specialist. We worked together for many years on everything from the City’s Source Reduction and Recycling Element to its Zero Waste Plan. His vast knowledge made him a vital resource on all of our projects. He also advised me on where to visit when I took a vacation in Austria. Initially not planning to visit Tasmania, he knew my love of the woods, and insisted I add it to my itinerary (he was right). And I also added Alice Springs and had the good fortune to meet his good friend from college, Laurie, there. I can’t imagine a world where he is not a resource on all things recycling and Australia. RIP, my friend. The world is better because you were in it.
Stephen had great passion for the environment, and especially for the recycling efforts at the City of San Diego. We all loved working with him. His cheerfulness and wisdom is remembered fondly. Glad to have been a mate.
