Tributes

  1. I first met Bob at 2RPH over 15 years ago: a true gentleman in every sense.

  2. The Radio 2RPH station community mourns the passing of Bob Hargreaves and we extend our condolences to his wife Robin, his daughters
Libby, Christine and Susie and his dearly loved grand and great-grand children.

Bob spent 65 years working in broadcasting, starting out in commercial radio in Albury and later working as a newsreader for ABC Canberra. He had also worked as a cinematographer and television producer. His program Get Together had been a fortnightly mainstay of the 2RPH schedule for more than 20 years and by 2022 Bob had contributed 1,021 episodes of his compendium of life enriching yarns which was a showcase for his standout skills in storytelling across the Radio Reading Network.

For years Bob’s home studio in Kiama Downs was a network outpost in the Illawarra region and he was a tireless producer of informative and entertaining radio programs. Bob had also served as a Board member at 2RPH for several years and made significant contributions towards station improvements and innovations.

  4. Margie and I are sorry we can’t be there in person but will be with you all in spirit. What a great story teller Bob was – he knew interesting things about everything and everywhere.

Sending our love and thoughts to you Robina, Libby, Christine and Susie.

    Vale dear Bob

  5. Bob Hargreaves is the kind of person I thought would be around forever. He was the kind of person we all wanted to have around forever because of who he was and the qualities he exemplified. To say he was a stalwart of community broadcasting is an understatement. His knowledge, contribution and dedication has been immense and his influence even greater because of how he conducted himself.

Bob’s contribution to 2RPH was amazing: both as a member and volunteer. It spanned decades and included hundreds and hundreds of recordings from both the 2RPH studios and from his home studio. His was the soothing voice that poured oil onto troubled water and who infused his recordings with his inimitable warmth. Listeners could relate to his friendly style and to the wisdom and wit of his readings.

I always enjoyed working with Bob on the Board of 2RPH and in listening to his recordings. Bob would make special trips from Kiama to attend the evening board meetings…such was his dedication supported by Robina and his family.

He was unfailingly kind, considerate and a great friend to many. His gentlemanly charm and warm personal style was clear in person and in his recordings. He didn’t fake sincerity, he epitomised it.

Vale Bob, he was an inspiration and an incredible role model. He will be greatly missed.
