  5. Very sad , my sincere condolences to Ann and all of Nicholas family, RIP

  6. I’ve known Nicholas (SCAGIL) since we were 13 years old joining the Naval Reserve Cadets TS Albatross in the fishing harbour in Wollongong. We joined the Navy together joining HMAS Leeuwin January of 1976 where Nick was put in Morrow and I was put into Howden our friendship didn’t end there Nick got a sponsor by the name of Mrs Strangward who requested 2 out of state boys, Nick came and found me and asked if I would like to be the second boy that Mrs Strangward was to look after on weekends we spent in WA. After Leeuwin Nick gained a apprenticeship at HMAS Nirimba and I went to Cerberus we lost touch for a lot of years and then caught up in mid 90 and stayed in touch with Facebook since then.
    He will be solely missed
So sorry I won’t be able to say my goodbye in person.
    Pierre Vennik

  7. What terrible news to wake up to 😢.

Nick was one of the first guys I met when I walked into Leeuwin. He was our cabin ‘IC’ which was afforded to whoever had the bunk closest to the door.

An absolute lovely bloke and great room mate who taught me so much from his days in Navy Cadets.

He also came across to Nirimba as an ETC so we continued our friendship and last saw him at our Muppets 30 year reunion. From memory he enjoyed a longer Defence career in the Hydrographic world post uniformed service.

Devastated for Nick’s family. RIP my friend 🙏

  8. Condolences to Ann, Samantha and Chris and his many friends.
    RIP Nic.
    We joined only yesterday…in 1976.

  9. Farewell old shipmate!

I have fond memories of our times together as Navy kellicks at HMAS WATERHEN in early 80s.💪⚓😊
And of course when he convinced me to be an Amway rep. 😂

Save me a seat, and I will see you on the other side!

  10. So sad to hear this, Nic, you were one of the best. Sincere condolences to your family. I am at a loss for words.

  11. Very sad to hear this news, Nick was many things, a mentor, the Amway king, but above all someone who loved a brew and a chat and showed a genuine interest in the lives of those he was engaged. Taken too early, my condolences to Ann and family.

  12. At Nirimba with Nick, great bloke. Too young! Fair winds and following seas Gacs.

  13. I was shocked to hear about Nicks passing. I was in Rhoads 53rd at Leeuwin 1975 and took Nick under my wing, as we both were from Wollongong. We knocked around for many years as good mates, had many fun times on leave in Wollongong. Time moves to quickly. I will miss him dearly, even though in later years we did not have much contact 😞, he was still a dear friend 🙏😪. Ann, Samantha and Family, my deepest condolences, RIP old friend. Sorry I can not attend the funeral.

  14. You were best friend. for 40 years. You were my bro and I’m going to miss you mate. Taken too soon 🙂 Rest in peace dear Nick. Xx. Loved you

  15. For my dear friend Nick, we shared many wonderful times over the years I will miss you terribly. My love to you, Ann, Sam and family xx

  16. I went to High School with Nick (our Gentle Giant of a Gentleman)…from day one, you just knew he would be a friend for life. Every reunion, Nick was always there. He introduced us to his lovely wife Ann, who became a “Honorary Student”. Nick was a kind, caring soul. He fought a big fight to the end. You will be missed my friend….sincere condolences to Ann, Samantha & family.

  17. So sorry to hear of Nicks passing, our friendship criss crossed through the years but i always treasured the time spent with you.
My thoughts are with you Ann and Samantha at this sad time.

  18. Nick was a great friend to many across his early Navy Cadet days, Navy, Naval Reserves, Amway, Hydrographic Office, camping and retired life. Taken way too soon but lives on in the food memories of many.

Thank you again Ann for allowing me to honour Nick’s 29 years Navy service in an RSL tribute.

  19. I’ll always be grateful to Nick. He gave more than he got back, I’m sure.
    Thanks mate! Time to rest.

  20. Such sad news. My heartfelt condolences to the family.
