I met Kathleen at U3A several years ago & we became friends. I found her sharp mind, honesty & sense of humour really refreshing. When she was unable to attend the U3A meetings, I would visit her with Janet and Valda in her apartment in Kiama. Unfortunately, when she moved to Bowral, I was unable to continue with visits because of my mobility issues. However, I’ve continued to think about her with great fondness and was saddened to hear of her passing.
I would like to express my deepest condolences to Michael and the rest of Kathleen’s family.
Kath & I shared an Irish background & 57 years of a
lovely friendship & I hold many happy memories of the time I knew her.
I met Kathleen and Jim when my husband Ted and I returned from England as newlyweds. Ted regarded both of them as his best friends in Australia. He and Jim started work at Caltex the same time.
Kathleen was so beautiful, she reminded me of the film star Ingrid Bergman. She was so helpful, practical and kind. Her devotion to her boys was admirable and a learning example for me approaching motherhood. My family loved visiting the Beares, in Canberra and Batehaven, Kathleen always had interesting information for us to follow up.
In recent years I was fortunate to visit Kathleen in Kiama, we kept in contact by phone and I saw her briefly once in Bowral. She was always so lovely. I shall miss her.
Kathleen
I fondly remember your inspirational presence as a teacher at North Curtin Primary and the love of learning you imbued in all your pupils.
I met Kathleen at U3A in Kiama, we formed a close friendship through the years, until she moved to a Nursing home in Bowral.
She was very fond of music, and came with friends to the Metropolital Opera in Bowral on many occasions.
My deepest sympathy to both her sons & families.
