Manny became part of our family when his son Nicholas captured our daughter Angela’s heart and they were engaged. We met Manny and Audrey and what a journey it has been as we have shared so many family occasions together – weddings, birthdays, numerous Christmas dinners and as the grand children came along we shared special moments as grandparents together. How we enjoyed Manny’s stories of his early days in Australia, his delight in marrying Audrey and welcoming Pam as his daughter and then the arrival of Nicholas his son. Manny was a man of many talents and of course “grandad could fix it”. Tom and Manny had many in-depth conversations and we shared a great love for our grandchildren Sienna and Lachlan. Manny was devastated when the love of his life, Audrey, died but he rose above the trials of his own declining health for as long as he could and is now at rest. May the love of God be a comfort and blessing to all his family.
I have always been so inspired by my Grandad, Emmanuel, I will never truly understand the full extent of the sacrifices that he made to come to a country, not speaking the language nor knowing anyone, to start something new. Leaving his family and all he knew for a new life in a foreign country in the hopes of starting a new one.
Grandad was tenacious worker, from his time at Snowy Hydro or Steel Works, he shed blood, sweat and tears to support his dream and eventually support his family. I will always seek to emulate Grandads work ethic and drive to support and provide for his family.
Grandands love for my late Gran was pure. It was not until after her passing that I truly saw how much Grandad cared for his wife. He has set the standard for me, as has my Poppa and my father, on what true love really is and the importance of prioritising your family, always.
I have the absolute honour to be named after both my grandfathers, Emmanuel and Thomas. Both men I respect and love deeply and men that I aspire to grow to be like. It brings me so much much sadness that Emmanuel has passed, but so much pride that I will get to carry his name with me for the rest of life.
I will always love you and be eternally grateful for you and your sacrifices, Grandad. I can live the life I live now because of you. You can rest now, I know that Gran has a cup of tea and biscuits ready for you.
I don’t know when I first met Manny but my first memory is of him visiting my home town of Redcliffe QLD in the very early1980s where Nick and I were competing in national catamaran titles during Christmas holidays from the Air Force. The word that always comes to mind when describing Manny is gentleman and perhaps, gentle man. A humble man who was totally unflappable – a loving and patient husband and father.
So sorry to read this today. I would have loved to have joined you all to celebrate Mannys life with you all. What a gentleman he was. He loved and did everything to the fullest for Audrey . No matter how sore his feet were he would insure Audrey was comfortable first. He was so proud and spoke highly of his children and grandchildren. He shared many stories of his arrival here with me also. RiP Manny finally back with your love . X condelences to Pam , Nicholas and families . Kim (ex carer Warrigal Community Services )
