My deep condolences to nick and family love from Matt and Ree Preo 💙💗🙏💐
Dear Aunty Beth,
You were always a calm and dignified presence. Beneath your sensible demeanor, there was a quick, engaging wit that I truly cherished—especially in those moments when it had the chance to shine.
To my lovely cousins. I am thinking of you all. ❤️
Dear Elizabeth & Paul, Nick & Leanne, John, David, Peter and Helen, and all the children,
During my year with the Bateman family in 1989/90 as an exchange student, I had a truly wonderful time—it remains one of the most special years of my life.
I still remember how Beth and Wilf picked me up at the airport and welcomed me so warmly from the very first moment, making me feel part of the family straight away.
One memory that has always stayed with me is Christmas. As a European, celebrating Christmas in the Australian summer felt so unusual and special. We had a lovely family gathering in Bega, nearly all of us wearing those funny paper crowns from Christmas crackers. Afterwards, we all went to the beach—something I will never forget.
I will also always remember how much Wilf enjoyed a good barbecue (and a cold beer), and how kind, caring and supportive Beth was to all of us.
Although Australia is very far away and I never managed to return, I have always carried those memories with me.
Beth always made a special effort to stay in touch and asked me to keep sending her photos so she could see what I was doing. As long as she was able, she always replied with a kind email.
I will remember Beth and Wilf—and the whole Bateman family—with deep gratitude, thankfulness and affection.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences. My thoughts are very much with you all.
With love and warmest greetings from Hamburg, Germany,
Jörn
Mrs Bateman was a kind and calming presence around the Upper/Rawlinson Street kids. Mr Bateman could not have been a nicer gentleman.
A lovely family who I am sad for at this time. There is also the feeling of an end to an era that was the foundation of our lives. I also now wonder if Beth and Beryl went to school together at St Patrick’s – their birthdays are only six days apart.
I hope you are all finding comfort in fond memories of your wonderful parents.
Cathy
