Nowra Hash House Harriers has lost it’s Senior Member and Bard. Smarty made it to her 800th run on her 99th birthday and demanded a kiss from everyone! We’ll all miss her sharp wit and poems that spared no-ones blushes. On, On.
My memories of Mrs Fry (I was not allowed to call people of my parents age by their first name)
I spent a lot of time between our house in East Street and Cox Avenue.
Memories of watching Mrs Fry ironing EVERYTHING! Including the underwear. Cooking food in the pressure cooker…. The Highland Fling comes to mind?
Her smile – the stories. R. I. P.
Fond memories of meeting Dorothy in Nowra in 1996 & trail walking with Yolanda. The hat looks very familiar. 99 is very good age, long life well lived. Deepest sympathies to all the family from all of us in Sunny Southsea (England).
Her kindness, grace, warmth, and wisdom have touched the lives of so many people over the years. She was a wonderful friend, a lovely lady, and source of inspiration to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
The memories she created, the love she shared, and the example she set are gifts that will always be treasured.
I was blessed a few weeks ago to be present for our Aunty June’s 99th birthday. A great age for a great lady! She was in top form, eyes shining, mind sharp as ever and thoroughly enjoying her visitors and birthday cake. She took such an interest in those around her and lived life with gusto even in old age. She was always ready with a laugh and a cheeky remark. My mother Grace, her cousin, loved being with her and they laughed and laughed when they got together. I’m so glad she had so much of her family close by and continued to live in an area she loved. She told me she was “ the last of her tribe” (the Pinkertons). We will miss her so much but always treasure joyful memories of her and she will live on in our hearts.
Aunty June had a great zest for life and a wonderful sense of the ridiculously. My mother look forward to spending time with her and laughed so much her sides would be sore for days. Aunty June provided poems for special occasions .In most cases they rhymed. She was such a beacon of life and will be greatly missed.
Marie and I were so blessed to
Get to know you Dorothy ,although
it was only a couple of hours ,seem to be long time . We still remember when
We managed to take a photo with you
On your Birthdays celebration….. that photo
Turned up to be a master piece …money can’t buy .
There are no Goodbye for us Dorothy ,where ever you are ,you’ll always in our hearts 💕
We will miss you lots Smarty. We still often remember and laugh about the time Stockade performed air guitar at New Year’s Eve and Smarty tried to tip Stockade $2 for his performance and took a spill. Smarty bought to our lives much joy, love, laughter and happiness. She was encouraging, witty, smart, kind, loving and full of fun.
Smarty was a blessing in our lives.
RIP smarty.
Much love to Estelle, Lance and relatives of smarty.

I wasn’t privileged to have met Dorothy, my husband met her and John when they visited London in the early 80’s and an immediate friendship grew from then…I loved her poems and her funny, newsy emails that always made me laugh! I shall miss them…goodbye dearest Dorothy, you will be sadly missed.
