John “Maxwell” McAlary OAM

At the age of 95, Max passed away peacefully with his family around him. He was husband to Zelma Dawn McAlary (dec), father to Greg, Maria, Graham, Christine, Neville, Noel, and James “Rock” McAlary. Grandfather to 17 grandchildren and great grandfather to 8. Max was originally a barber in Unanderra and then turned his business talents to real estate. He was a sportsman and represented Australia at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Recently honoured with Order of Australia Medal for his sporting achievements and charitable efforts including the funding of a school and water supply to a village in a remote country.  He will be remembered by many as an honest businessman in Wollongong and a sporting inspiration to others. Most of all, he will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband and father to those that survive him.

 

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday 10^th July 10.30am at The Church of the Immaculate Conception, Princes Highway, Unanderra.
