Passed away peacefully on Monday 6th April 2026. Beloved wife of the late Roydon Charles. Dearly loved mother and mother-in-law of Beryl and Don, Barbara, Steve and Margo. Cherished Nanna of Sheridon and Jay, Andrew, Melinda and Richard, Bernadette and Mark, David and Andra and great Nanna of Charlotte, Ashton, Layla, Hamish, Eloise, Adeline, Mac and Willa. Joan will be sadly missed by her loving family and many dear friends.

I was billeted with the Cornford family in the 1960s,at Mt Ousley, when I went to Wollongong from Nowra High School for regional swimming carnivals. Beryl was also a terrific swimmer. They were such a lovely family, who made me feel right at home, and I’ve never forgotten their hospitality. My condolences to all the family. My maiden name was Elliott.
