Tributes

  1. My husband and I were honored to get to know Jimmy on one of his many cruises to New Zealand. We enjoyed his company so much, and invited him to visit us in America; he arrived for a fortnight and we had many adventures. Meeting my friends, a sunset cruise on the lake, a jet boat tour of the Snake River in Idaho. So much laughter, and life, and energy emanated from Jimmy; everyone in our circle of friends adored him. Sometimes I would have to “translate” his thick Scottish brogue; he took it all in good humor. He taught me much about life and aging; we should all be as lucky as Jimmy, to live life to the fullest and embrace it all with grace and humor. We were fortunate to know him. Thank you, Jimmy, for being in our lives.

  2. I met “Uncle” Jimmy through my bestie, Ellen Rice Ziska, when he paid her a visit in Idaho. Ellen had already regaled me with amusing and amazing adventures with him and I found him to be sweet, funny, a grand billiards player and engaging teller/singer of stories & songs. My life was enriched with him in it and he reminded us all to be happy and even a wee bit mischievous. ( My favorite part!) His contributions to our world is vast and he will be missed dearly. Long live Uncle Jimmy!

  3. Jimmy you have inspired me with your out going love for life. I hope to live with your enthusiasm and overall good attitude towards every single moment.

Rest in Peace friend. I’ll see you on the other side.

  4. Watching Jimmy play soccer @ horgans oval along cambewarra road for the nowra greens is a very early childhood memory. he would always be trying to curl the ball in to the top corner of the goal off corners. @ artie smith oval @ bomaderry during the first junior soccer gala days, having volunteered in the caravan canteen, jim gave us kids a choice of cleaning up @ day’s end : a free paddle pop worth 3 cents, or 2 ice blocks worth 2 cents each. jimmy was on the committee my father tom blackmore led with len bolden to prepare the first field @ south nowra. playing again for the nowra greens, jim would occasionally score direct off a corner in the first seasons played there. later, i played against him @ bomaderry oval. despite being 30 plus years my senior, it was hard to beat him to the ball. fast fwd four decades, and jim served me in the canteen @ bomaderry, @ almost 90 years of age. vale a champion bloke, even if his scottish brogue needed translation sometimes. jb

  5. Dearest Jimmy was our dear neighbour growing up. He was always happy and loved helping everyone. He was the true meaning of the best neighbour. When our dad was very ill he was so kind and caring. When myself and our family would visit from Coffs we always had a get together for dinner. I will miss writing my annual Christmas letter and him responding with a short but sweet card. He will be missed. RIP Jimmy. Love to the family xx Jenny-Lee, Ronnie, Matt and Emma-Lee MacMaster

  6. I am another lucky Ziska girl who met
Mr. Jimmy Barr when he arrived in Idaho
to visit brother Fred and his wife Ellen.
I was camping in my little trailer with my 2 pups visiting from Denver. So many laughs and delightful days in Jimmy’s
company. Such a pleasure to have had that time with him. Thank you Jimmy
for your earthly presence. We will miss
    you!
