Emeritus Professor McKinnon gave us, as mature students, the opportunity for a university education that was impossible to even consider in our youth. When I attended, it was reported that the University of Wollongong had 6,000 effective students (about 10,000 in total) and I had the honour of being one of them through the UPC program. Not only was I able to attend, some of my children and their children have gone on to study, most at UoW and now a great-grandchild is close to attending too.
Professor McKinnin was wonderful person and visionary that has opened the world to many and I thank him for that. Under him, the university was an exciting place to be.
