Edward (Ted) Clapham

Edward (Ted) Clapham, aged 99, formerly of Barrack Point, passed away on Monday, 23 February 2026 surrounded by loving family. Ted was born in Maroubra NSW, on 12 February 1927. He joins his beloved wife of 74 years, Mary Beryl Clapham (nee Shearer) who passed away in 2022 (12/07/1926 – 09/06/2022).

Ted was a Master Builder, a community volunteer, a keen fisherman, and an avid reader. He loved travel, gardening and music; he was an accomplished harmonica player. He was also a dedicated Catholic with a strong sense of fairness and social justice.

An extraordinary father, grandfather, and great-grandfather he had a deep appreciation of education, instilling in his family a love of learning. He will be remembered for his kindness, gratitude, compassion, and his wonderful sense of humour.

Ted was the dearly beloved father/father-in-law of Ronald/Jann, Patricia/Rodney, Edward/Luz, Margaret/Brad (dec), Kathleen/Alfonso, Suzanne, Pauline/Greg. He was cherished by his 15 grandchildren (David/Eleanor/Murray, Virginia/Rebecca, Rhyan, Hannah/Kurt/Louis, Monica/Isabel, Jessica/Beau/Rose, Amy); and his 20 great-grandchildren (Reuben/Lucy/Lucas/Lily, Luca/Ezri/Jasper/Tilly, Delilah/Jude/Seb/Doug/Ayla/Rue, Sierra/Azalea, Lachlan/Hamish/Tristan/Lilly).

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, parents Edward and Annie, and sisters (Evelyn, Marjory, Joan, Alice and Dorothy). A ‘child of the Depression,’ raised in the 1930s in a close-knit family with little material wealth, he grew up surrounded by love and, in turn, spent his life sharing that love with others.

Ted will be sadly missed by his immediate and extended family, nieces and nephews and dear friends, many of whom have shared their condolences.

He is forever in our hearts.
