I had the great pleasure of working with Doug at both Qantas and Air Vanuatu.
Doug was a great colleague who always had a smile ( sometimes naughty !) on his face and a very subtle but clever sense of humour. I cannot recall anyone who did not like Doug as a colleague, friend, aquaintance or customer. He was much loved and liked by all.
RIP Douglas Norman Cremer OAM and we expect Dame Joan will welcome you with open arms .
Doug’s warmth, energy, generosity, infectious smile and wicked sense of humour will be remembered by all who were fortunate to be his friends. We met at JSS events and a firm and enduring friendship with our family grew from this shared interest in assisting young singers.
Vale, Doug. We miss you.

Vale, Doug. We miss you.
We had the great honour of working with Doug when writing two books – A Photographic History of P&O, and A Photographic History of the Orient Line. During the collaboration we became good friends. His kindness, and supportive nature will always be remembered, and our thoughts are with our dear friend Rob, at this time.
Doug was a wonderful man, I am immensely grateful for his support of young opera singers like myself through the Joan Sutherland Society of Sydney, of which he was president for many years. He and the Society gave us a platform for performance, something that is invaluable to a developing artist.
He even let me sing a number from Monty Python’s Spamalot in St Paul’s Burwood, which can’t have been a common occurrence among all the Puccini and Mozart…
He continued to support me throughout my studies in London and subsequently as a professional in Europe. I remember very clearly when he and his partner Rob were in the audience of an outdoor concert, in front of the enormous cathedral in Bamberg, tears streaming down his face as I sang Violetta’s aria from La Traviata.
Even on opposite sides of the world we stayed in touch with numerous emails filled with witticisms and updates on what was going on with him and Rob – referred to in all correspondence as ‘The Ancient Mariner.’
A beautiful, kind, funny and generous human. I remember him with immense affection. Thank you for everything, Doug. Say hi to Dame Joan from me, please.
One of my favourite people. Although I didn’t see much of him in later years, I often thought of him and our times together in work and play. I loved knowing he was part of my world. I will miss his presence always.
